I remember last raya, they advertised the location of dangerous route/location for various reason (accident area, landslide etc). They give the general location using paper map.

For me, it is better if they could provide the info using GPS Point of Interests (POI) to be download by GPS users. One thing good about GPS is the ability to alert its user of location of specific POI (in this case, "Dangerous Road/Route") therefore the user will be more carefull when driving on that particular road.

There are several GPS systems but in Malaysia, the popular choice is Garmin due to the availability of free Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei map from Malsingmaps.com.Perhap the data can be made available in .gpx or .gpi format to be upload into Garmin GPS device.

As for those without GPS device, the data can be made available in .kml format to be viewed using Google Map or Google Earth. (have a look of a sample google map of road alert from this link http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=100045734631274121888.00045787a1d56a016941f&z=6)

I'm sure that this will a least help our drivers to plan their trip better.

  2. Is there any way you guys can convert the .kml to the Garmin format? I can ask the boys to prepare something in Google map first.

update: i just notice the speed trap location. interesting...

The list is from Garmin format converted to .kml. The file is from malsingmaps.com. Perhap you could use google map embeded in this website (but not the speedtrap location lah) just the dangerous road/area with comment such as landslide, sharp bend etc.

  4. Badrol,

You gave me an idea, i do want this in some portable format like Google Map for the public to use. Then if someone willing to volunteer they can program or script something to convert the raw data from google map and convert it to Garmin format or other application format.

First thing first, let me get clearance if we can actually release this in Google Map.

Great. With map, we can actually visualised the location instead of "main agak-agak" only.

Ok, just have a look at this site (using embeded google map) http://nyem.appspot.com/bencana.html or the one by JKR http://bencanaalam.jkr.gov.my/content.php?page=map&code=07

  7. Badrol,

It is no go from our JKJR side (yet) coz the system can't export out the GPS co-ordinates. I'm trying another source of data.
